Last night DCMS took a little field trip to the WORLD PREMIERE of a new musical called Manny Quinn. The show is playing in Break for the Border as part of the Absolute Gay theatre Festival.
The show is based around the character of Logan who inadvertantly falls in love with a mannequin.
The best bit however is that all the songs within the show are past Irish Eurovision entrys, which leads to a huge amount of gags and a hilarious show. Logan, along with his friends Linda and Martin - hahaha- are wonderful characters ands DCMS is delighted to support this new show.
So 13 of us met at the gaiety is what genuinely was freezing cold weather at half 7 to procede to the show for 8.
With some people having just arrived back from a certain festival there was some seriously tired faces in the crowd, but it's safe to say that everyone thoroughly enjoyed themselves.
Manny Quinn is playing in Break for the Border until Saturday 15th, and Ms. DCMS is urging everyone to go to this wonderful show!
In other news AUDITIONS for Tick Tick Boom will be held in Doyle's on May 24th.
Till next time

Tick Tick Tick TICK....
Yes you heard right,
Dublin City Musical Society already has another exciting show lined up for its extremely large fanbase!
Having just given you the spectacular Opening Night the society will be bringing you the IRISH PREMIERE of Jonathan Larson's autobiographical musical' Tick Tick Boom'.
Larson, the writer of the Tony Award winning Rent, wrote Tick Tick Boom as a solo performance which was then adapted for Broadway after his death.
The musical has never been done in Ireland before either professionally or otherwise, and DCMS will be bringing it too you in July in an exclusive city center venue.
An information meeting was held in Doyle's (as usual) on Monday to give members a chance to listen to the script and the music. It seems to have gone down well, there's no way anyone could NOT like this musical.
Audtions will be held on Monday week and the audition pieces have been sent out to anyone on the mailing list, so get reading and singing and give it your best shot. You never know,YOU could be the one starring in the Irish Premiere of this wonderful musical.
For those who don't know the musical( don't worry of you don't, you're one of many) here's a little peek at some of the music. If you like Rent you'll love this.
So back into rehersals, and don't forget, there is an amazing series of workshops with the amazing Anthony starting in a few weeks, so make sure to get your membership forms in!
Hope to see you all at auditions. Here we go again!

Congratulations!
Everyone can breath a sigh of relief! Opening Night was a huge success. A sell out show which has marked the beginning of a wonderful society.
It is hard to describe in words the atmosphere of excitement in the Sugar Club on Wednesday. So much work was put into the show and the tickets had sold out days before! By 8 o clock the place was full of proud mammies, spouses and friends waiting to see the performance.
It is also near to impossible to describe the level of performance on the night. With surprisingly on major hitches the show was a stormer and the audience loved it. The enrgy backstage was incredible as the chorus listened to soloist after soloist do a top notch job. The chorus numbers were also spectacular and listening to reviews from the audience, everyone was very impressed.
So for those of you who failed to make it to the show here is one of the amazing performances.
And for those of you who missed the show you also missed the most amazing afterparty in Dandelion on Stephen's Green, who put of with our loudness extremely well, and fed us to boot!
Opening Night has certainly put DCMS on the map. It is important to note however that this is not an end, it is the first firm footsteps of Dublin City Musical Society, which most definitely is not going anywhere for a long time.

Building Blocks
And so it's time to block the show. A seemingly simple task that will and has caused tempers to fray and voices to screech.
Blocking a show is something that on paper should take about 10 minutes when the task is to be undertaken by a group of well educated grown up human beings. It involves figuring out where everyone will stand on stage, and how to get them on and off. Easy right?
The thing is that normally blocking a show is an exasperating process. Human beings by nature forget things, and if one person forgets that they are supposed to be standing two centimeters to the left of that person and 5 to the right of another then the whole thing falls apart.
DCMS managed to have no such problems on 'Blocking Saturday', thanks to the help of the one and only Anthony. A man of small stature he had us marching and snaking (we snake everywhere, it's the thing to do these days) in a matter of minutes. And even more shockingly, everyone was happy to do it.
'Boom!You love her!Very good.Next!'
Magic Anthony has also worked wonders with our soloists, making sure that on the night there will be a vast amount of stage presence and characters dazzling the Sugar Club.
He has turned a Dental Nurse into a convincing flamboyant lesbian, men into romantic, sweet heros and an AuPair into a Nubian citizen. The man works wonders.
So with much to look forward to, and dread for that matter, Opening Night looms closer than ever. Lets just hope that all our good work will pay off. I'm sure it will

Opening Night
No, the title of this blog isn't anything witty or smart. It's something even better!
Dublin City Musical Society are proud to announce that their upcoming musical extravaganza will be called...'Opening Night'. (Wait for applause)

The show is going to be held on Wednesday April 21st in the aforementioned Sugar Club on Leeson St, and will BLOW your mind. Well, it'll definitely be very good.
So with that date approaching the group of loyal DCMSers are knuckling down and drilling God's Love Nubia harmonies into our heads. Ephemeral and fleeting is less of a lyric right now and more a description of my memory of harmonies.
But it's coming together. Everyone involved in working extremely hard to make sure we make Mammy and Daddy DCMS (Eimear and Kevin) very proud. And for those planning on attending the show, I'm pleased to inform you that at the very least it's bearable!
Hope to see you there

All work and no Play
DRINK!
We at DCMS, while taking our work extremely seriously, nose to the grindstone and all that, also enjoy some fun and frolics now and again.
Seeing as we have been working so very hard, the committee thought it would be a lovely idea to let us all relax and put up our feet with a pint after rehersals on Monday night.
Everyone was encouraged to stay in our usual venue of Doyles to socialise and get to know their fellow musical loving city dwellers.
This blogger is extremely happy to admit that the night was a huge success. After blasting our lungs out in a frantic effort to get the One Day More finale sounding satisfyingly 'oomphy',we retired to the bar. Everyone's favorite place to be.

Not a poser among tham.
Even though it was a Monday night everyone made an effort to stay, learn some names and have some fun. I'm sure there were some not so pleasant heads in need of a dose of Diorlite the next morning in work...But I'm sure they all will say it was worth it.
So DCMS isn't all work. We have fun too, and we're still open for business. So come along new people. You can hungover in work on a Tuesday too. Oh, and there's some singing stuff as well.

And the winner is!
Spectacular spectacular...is most definitely what little Louise Fox is aiming for. Nothing less than perfect. With the la la las and the red lorry, yellow lorries, she's turning us all into glorious West End stars!
So the results of auditions are out and it's easy to say that with the amount of talent ready to take to the stage, DCMS's first ever show is going to be a blinder.
With songs from Cabaret, Annie get your gun, Phantom of the Opera and loads more, this blogger would be very surprised if we don't get a bit of unwarranted audience participation on the night.
And what stage will it be? Committee members have been frantically trawling through the masses of city center venues looking for a stage to highlight DCMS, to bring us forward into the packed world of Irish musical societies. And the winner is........The Sugar Club.
DCMS would like to assure its readers that choice of venue had absolutely NOTHING to do with budgeting.......hmm.
But the Sugar Club, Leeson St it is. And no one's complaining. With the venue, soloists and songs announced tension is a word on everyone's lips. Gotta get those God's love Nubia lyrics into ones head, or one may incur the rath of the almighty Foxy.
I swear to Sondheim she's like a crazy Greek God behind that keyboard.
And we really are all as happy as we look in that picture.
